It’s a pumpkin! It’s a Jack-o-lantern! It’s an electronics project! It’s… a Cylon! 555 Timer and 4017 decade counter.

This project was designed for a model lighthouse to flash a lamp in a simple sequence: two flashes of 2s with a short gap of 1s, followed by a longer gap of 5s before repeating the sequence using a 555 Timer and 4017 counter.

4017 Knight Rider circuit, the 555 is wired as an oscillator. It can be adjusted to give the desired speed for the display. 

This circuit produces a random number from 1 to 6 on LEDs that are similar to the pips on the side of a dice. When the two TOUCH WIRES are touched with a finger, the LEDs flash very quickly and when the finger is removed, they gradually slow down and come to a stop.
